PreauXX (pronounced “pro”) is redefining what it means to be a southern hip hop artist. Born in New Orleans and based in Memphis, the rapper mines musical inspiration from both cities even as his lyrics take listeners far beyond the Dirty South. For PreauXX, nothing matters more than inspiring his audience to seek the most out of life. He’s a motivational lyricist who stays resolutely honest no matter what comes his way.
PreauXX’s arsenal, a combination of aggressive wordplay and charismatic delivery, has brought him notoriety both in the recording studio and onstage. Since 2010, he’s released two mixtapes (To Kill A Mockingbird and Love Jones), a pair of albums, Forever. I Will and Die Winning, collaborated with Cities Aviv on the singles “Re$ults” and “Friday Night,” and worked with producer IMAKEMADBEATS and the Unapologetic roster on songs like “Humble Hustle,” and 2017’s “Chapters” and “Snowflakes,” both from the recently released EP 2XX’s Tuesdays. No subject is off limits as he takes on major social issues—but for PreauXX, it’s personal, not political, as evidenced on songs like the critically acclaimed 2015 single “Benjamin,” written from the perspective of the late Trayvon Benjamin Martin.
A powerhouse performer, PreauXX has wowed crowds at Atlanta’s A3C Festival, SXSW, Memphis in May’s Beale Street Music Festival and the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, as well as at Memphis’ Cooper Young Festival, where he performed for a 10,000+ audience. He’s also opened shows for big-name artists like Tech N9ne and Big Sean, has performed onstage at historic Clayborn Temple, one of the most important spiritual, social and architectural sites in Memphis, and is the first and only rapper to have performed at Elvis Presley’s original Memphis home as part of the Mike Curb Institute’s Audubon Sessions concert series, hosted by Rhodes College.
